A newly-constructed classroom block at Ngokwe Primary School in Machinga District has more than doubled the school’s enrolment from about 1 000 to 2 350 learners.
The facility, constructed under the World Bank-funded Regional Climate Resilience Program (RTCRP-2), was handed over to the community in February 2026.
The school’s deputy head teacher Amina Kanyenga attributes the sharp increase to the improved learning environment created by the new infrastructure.
“Since the classroom block was handed over in February, we have witnessed a significant rise in enrolment. More learners, particularly those in Standard One and Two, are eager to attend school because they now have proper classrooms furnished with desks,” she said.
Kanyenga said the classroom block has created a safe and attractive learning environment.
“We expect enrolment to continue increasing, although we are concerned that the two classrooms may soon be overwhelmed by the growing number of learners,” he said.
