People in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza District are all smiles after learning that Kapiri Evacuation Centre under construction will not only provide shelter for communities affected by disasters but also serve as a Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) selling point.

The K297.9 million facility is being constructed under the Regional Climate Resilience Program (RCRP-2), implemented with financial support from the World Bank.

Construction started on May 16 2025, by PCM/Meshozi.

The site’s grievance redress mechanism committee chairperson, Jeremiah Goodson, said the facility has been designed to deliver benefits throughout the year.

“Besides providing shelter during disasters, this structure will also serve as a Fisp selling point. Currently, farmers travel more than five kilometres to Golomoti Trading Centre to access subsidised farm inputs. This facility will bring those services closer to the people,” he said.

Community member Esinta Fletcher welcomed the project, saying it will help them access subsidised fertiliser within easy reach.
